As it transpired, there was no blackcurrant liqueur (except fancy $28 stuff I wasn't going to shell out for for what amounts to "gag gift" purposes) at the local store. They must have got cleaned out for New Year's and haven't restocked. :(

Damn them! I agree, $28 is way too much. I've always just used cheapo blackcurrant cordial, trusting the cider and lager to provide the alcohol content. Can you use something like that? :)

That's what I mean, they had none, except the $28 stuff. So in the absence of that I didn't bother buying the lager.
