Author's summary: Young Sam grows up, meets a girl, cracks a case, and tells a lie. Not necessarily in that order.
Author's notes: Thanks so much to Petra and Anne for beta. This story has been taking up significant amounts of brainspace for absolute *ages*. I finally got it written down. I hope Young Sam &co are as much fun in your head as they are in mine.

My comment: "Wow, what a concept! I like Sam's voice and his disdain of his noble title even to the point that he thinks of it as a separate person. Meg seems like a good match for him."

Quote:
Sam, much to his chagrin, had a title. As the son of a duke he was a Lord anyway, which was bad enough, but the firstborn son of the Duke of Ankh had a courtesy title, which meant that Sam had to be introduced at posh parties as the Viscount of Oxbury. There was no such place as Oxbury, at least not in the last nine hundred years, and being the Viscount of it was complete nonsense, but that didn't mean a thing to the people who announced you at posh parties. They went right on doing it regardless.

Fandom: Our Flag Means Death x Monkey Island
Pairing/Characters: Blackbeard | Edward Teach/Stede Bonnet, Oluwande Boodhari/Jim Jimenez, Black Pete/Lucius Spriggs, Elaine Marley/Guybrush Threepwood; Crew of the Revenge (Our Flag Means Death), Murray (Monkey Island)
Rating: Teen
Words: 48,438

Author's summary: Stede's journey to win back his life and love introduces him to new friends and hidden strengths. Meanwhile, Ed discovers unexpected allies as he attempts to recover from Stede's betrayal, and the crew tries to keep it together long enough to get back together. What will it take to reunite the co-captains of the Revenge and repair their wounded family?
Author's notes: Thank you so much if you made it this far! As soon as I fell in love with OFMD I knew I had to throw in some of that Monkey Island charm, so I came out of fic retirement and somehow this beast popped out. I promise you don't need to know anything about Monkey Island to get this - there are a few in jokes, but I mainly just REALLY liked the mental image of Stede learning how to insult sword fight. Thank you so much to both my brilliant betas, who know who they are (and I will properly credit once I learn their ao3 handles lolz). Thank you for catching me on my bullshit and not making me just scream into the void. Come screech about gay pirates with me on Instagram [profile] ofmderby!

My comment: "I Don't Even Go Here, as they say, for OFMD (though I have seen it), but really interesting ideas about the Monkey Island side of things here. Guybrush totally stole the show for me every time he was on the page. Kinda makes me think I should go back to the drawing board on all my Monkey Island fics ;)"

Quote:
Guybrush shrugged, his shoulders undulating in a well-practiced wave. Stede was beginning to think that the shrug was an integral part to Guybrush’s philosophy on life. “I just am. I’ve always sort of felt like there was something bigger than me, guiding me along. I may not always know where I’m going, but I know I’ll get there. And if I get stuck, I just keep throwing everything I’ve got at the puzzle until my options open up. What’s life if not trying every crazy idea you have until something sticks? Life.” He huffed out a small laugh and directed another beaming smile at Stede. “I don’t really think you can lose this game, buddy.”

“One could die,” Stede pointed out helpfully.

“Not in my experience!” Guybrush bounced to his feet like a coiled spring let go, the surprise knocking Stede back in his chair. “So I have a proposition for you.”

Title: The Ozzie Mandrill Pirate Transmogrification Academy Class of '93 (on AO3)
Fandom: Monkey Island
Pairing/Characters: Guybrush, Elaine, Yangja (EfMI), Mungle (EfMI), Hugo (EfMI), Miss Rivers (EfMI), Original Female Character, Original Male Characters, a few cameos
Rating: General (PG for a little danger/violence, one mildly suggestive scene, and hints at a few swear words)
Words: ~28,800
Summary: Guybrush receives an invitation to a class reunion of the Ozzie Mandrill Pirate Transmogrification Academy. Thinking it might be fun, he decides to go. This might not have been the best move.
Warnings/Contains/Additional Tags: No Archive Warnings Apply, Minor suggestive content, Humor, Locked room scenario, Video game logic, Mild peril, Canon-typical anachronisms, Canon-typical fake voodoo, Bad jokes
Notes: This story was inspired by Stan kicks previously-owned butt, a very old fic posted in 2002 on the no-longer-extant World of Monkey Island site. It's... a rough read, ngl... but I thought the author really missed an opportunity by putting this in a throwaway line and not writing the fic all about it instead: "Oh no! Elaine, next week is the Knuttin Atoll school reunion!" Sooo yeah. Apparently I had to row this particular boat myself; that's the only excuse I have for these shenanigans. Although this went way off my original idea of "school reunion situation comedy", so maybe someone else was rowing the boat. *looks around suspiciously*

Set between Escape and Tales. Involves handwavy attempt at dates because dates within Monkey Island are difficult to reconcile, and handwavy relative geography because that too is often difficult to reconcile (have you looked at the map in MI4? *smh*). Not generally shippy, but has a little onscreen Guybrush/Elaine fluff because he is the squishiest when it comes to her. The "minor suggestive content" is very minor and is solely at the end of the first chapter.

Thanks to [personal profile] threewalls for early beta services and [archiveofourown.org profile] cuwalli for being my unflagging cheerleader.

Title: The Education of Guybrush Threepwood (on AO3)
Fandom: Monkey Island
Pairing/Characters: Guybrush/OFC
Rating: Explicit
Words: 6600
Summary: Guybrush and his girlfriend teach each other some, ahem, vital life skills.
Warnings/Contains/Additional Tags: Romance, Fluff, Hand jobs, Oral sex, Both participants are 16, This fic is rated H for Herman Toothrot-ting fluff, No he's not in this
Notes: I started with her name (which is funny because those are usually my personal voodoo anti-root), her occupation, and a few hundred words of cute fluff about how she humored him about his pirate stories. Then uhhhh my hand slipped?

Title: Thirty-Three and a Third (at AO3)
Fandom: Monkey Island
Pairing/Characters: Guybrush/Elaine/OMC
Rating: Explicit
Words: 8815
Summary: Guybrush would give Elaine just about anything within his power; and thus an otherwise ordinary birthday acquires sexual shenanigans.
Warnings/Contains/Additional Tags: PWP, oral sex, vaginal sex, hand job, dirty talk, my usual penchant for gibberish sexual noises, prose gets a little purple in some places, original islands, general silliness
Notes: a.k.a. Long Play, a.k.a. Guybrush thinks he's being funny with these titles. he might be right You can blame him for the names of the islands, too: is this "canon"? eh, "sorta"; okay, "not so much." har de har.
I promise there's gen in the works. But when I tried to work on one of two WIPs one morning a few weeks ago, my brain was like "nope, can't do it; and also here's a threesome scenario you didn't ask for". So here we are.

OH MY GLOB I WROTE SOMETHING?

I know no one reading this is probably into Monkey Island, or maybe has never even heard of it, but it really did my head in last late summer/autumn and here we are.

Title: The Trouble With Towel Snaps
Fandom: Monkey Island
Pairing/Characters: Guybrush Threepwood/Brimstone Beach Cabana Boy (Technically. I mean, it's kinda suggestive actions that involve those two people. Not really a "pairing".)
Rating: Teen
Words: 981
Warnings: None really, but see additional tags
Additional tags: Crack, very light spanking (I guess you'd call it; if you're actually into spanking this is not the fic for you), I cannot stress enough that this is crack
Summary: Not everyone takes being snapped with a wet towel in the same way.
Notes: This fic is just SO dumb. I cannot overstate that. For the love of $DEITY, do not take it seriously. [archiveofourown.org profile] Cuwalli and I were discussing how there aren't many characters in Monkey Island that you can ship with Guybrush without it getting extremely silly, laughed about the idea of Guybrush/Brimstone Beach Cabana Boy, and both said the same thing at the same time about Guybrush snapping him with the towel. So obviously this thing is all his fault and I had absolutely nothing to do with it.

That sound you're hearing is everyone who followed me for brooding Snape fics instantly unfollowing me after making this nonsense the first fic I post in more than 10 years. XD

Dialogue in the first fourth or so is taken directly from The Curse of Monkey Island.

Absolutely no one, certainly not me:
My brain: Okay, but what if: Tam Lin pastiche in a Monkey Island setting.
Me: ...
My brain, rhetorically: What, you think Elaine couldn't rescue Guybrush from some sort of tropical-island faery queen?
Me: You need to lay off the grog, is what I think.

(CAN I AT LEAST FINISH THE OTHER ONE FIRST GEEZ)

I dunno if anyone reading this cares or even knows about the old LucasArts (and more recently Telltale) adventure game franchise Monkey Island... )

TL;DR: Woe, no1curr about the few things I posted in the tag myself, and I've come here to inflict them on you. Warning: lots of images behind the cuts, most 1280 px wide, and about 3.5 MB total.

Ever since I hung up a printout of Vestergaard's Read or Die poster at work, I've occasionally made others to amuse myself. Guybrush is now tacked up beside Severus, the Tenth Doctor, and Lord Vetinari. (The image is not actually a screenshot from the game, but a cap from this Youtube video demonstrating upscaling and cleanup of the graphics.)
Read poster )

Insult swordfighting bonanza: I was really tickled by this post which stuck an Oscar Wilde quote on a screencap of the insult swordfighting from MI1, and decided to do some more with other quotes from Wilde, as well as Dorothy Parker (which seemed an obvious next step) and a handful of others. (Image resources from this game which combines all the insults from various MI games together. Some quotes have been edited slightly to make the grammar work in this context.)
