Dec. 3rd, 2014 11:00 pmDoes anyone know where David Tennant's character on Gracepoint, Emmett Carver, is supposed to be from, exactly? Gracepoint is a fictional small town supposed to be in northern California "halfway between here [San Francisco] and the Oregon border" and some other character made a passing reference that he's "from the city". On that stretch of coast I can't think what else they'd mean by it except San Francisco - it's commonly referred to as "the city", at least within a certain radius thereof, and there's really nothing else large enough, near enough that I can plug in as an alternative (I mean, Redding? Sacramento? I don't think they don't really make sense).
David's American accent here sounds wonky to us in any case, "like American butter scraped over too much Scottish bread," as I said. A lot of the vowels are sideways and it's like he's wibbling back and forth in every sentence. (One presumes he had a voice coach and wasn't just going it alone...?) But yeah, if it's San Francisco, not buying it.
Broadchurch will be on Netflix next week so maybe we'll just watch that instead. I'm not sure I can get through ten episodes of this weird accent.
