Not every house has a Christmas tree. Not every house has Father Christmas and stockings, plum pudding and a roast turkey. [...] There was a small house in Spinner's End, down at the end of the street near the river that had none of these.
*flails* This is a scant thousand words of sheer sad delight. I know that's a strange-sounding emotion, but there it is. It makes me want to cry and smile and the images are so simple but so powerful. I would love an illustration of the scene of little Sev in his house waving at his purloined discarded tree with its gathered tinsel and single forgotten bauble.
