I was hoping for 80s or early 90s given the clothes too, but it seems not, alas. (Turning out like this post on tumblr would have been funny, tho. A missed opportunity!)
I mean, I get that there are potential difficulties with a character who is from too far back in Earth's past or some totally different kind of society and might need things viewers would take for granted explained all the time, or likewise with someone who's too much the Doctor's equal and can steal his thunder. But a little variety on the theme, please?
