I don't much mind if people want to treat me to dinner (or cake!) or whatever, but there's no need to make a big deal out of it. It's also a good excuse to receive fanfic, although I don't recall getting anything done for me this year.
I'm glad I escape the ridiculousness that seems to go round in my husband's stepfather's family. Things like waking up on your fiftieth birthday to find fifty pink flamingoes stuck in your lawn and a big embarrassing sign so the whole neighbourhood knows. *eyeroll* Honestly. (He literally did something like that on his wife's fiftieth birthday. It wasn't flamingoes but I've blocked out what it actually was. The man is a serious boor.)
