I just saw a summary on FFN that mentioned Harry's godmother coming to fetch him when Sirius died. Obviously this is an OC and no such person is mentioned in canon, but it's an interesting idea; godparents usually come in pairs. Who do you think might have been Harry's godmother, if anyone?

It is not unusual that a parent's sibling be a godparent. Since Sirius was like a brother to James, that made him an obvious pick. Although a horrible one, I would go with Aunt Petunia as the godmother. The godparent provides the upbringing and spiritual guidance of the child should the parents die. Petunia's "spiritual guidance" was repression of the magical.

Only one of the definitions of godparent. I agree totally that the Potterverse is not religious. In the case of Aunt Petunia, I used the quotation marks because I saw her as bent on breaking Harry's spirit and any inkling of being magical. Sirius certainly raised Harry's spirits, on the other hand.
