Pairing/Characters: Arthur, Ford, Agrajag
Rating: General
Words: 1197
Author's summary: While waiting in a spaceport, Arthur tells Ford about his encounter with Agrajag, the being destined to be killed by him in any incarnation. Ford thinks it's the coolest space-time-anomaly.
Author's notes: For HYPERFocused.
Author's warnings: None

But a really interesting conversation, one for which it was worth actually listening, was one that started with words you didn’t expect to hear, like “My daughter married a Vogon”, or “I’m running for president of the galaxy” or “shit, Ford, I’m a murderer”.

Still other means of transportation are so amazingly primitive that they are nothing more than ancient history now in all but the most backward and technologically-deprived of planets.
One such example is the train. For technical details and a detailed history of trains, consult the relevant entry of the Encyclopedia Galactica. For a more interesting read on the subject, see the Vehicles chapter of Ancient Technology Whose Inventors Must Have Been Either Completely Mad Or Extremely Drunk To Have Even Thought Of In The First Place, written by a group of former professors from Maximegalon University. Alternatively, you can see a train for yourself if you visit one of those backward planets on which they still exist.

Fandom: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Pairing/Characters: Ford, Arthur
Rating: General
Words: 5454
Author's summary: Ford doesn't expect anything to come of this interview, and in a way he's right. In another, more important way, he's the opposite of that.
Author's notes: So here's a thing. Arthur and Ford have known each other for "five years, maybe six." Arthur moved from London to the West Country "about three years" ago. Ford lives close enough to casually drop round of a morning. So seriously, what happened there? Actually this isn't a story about that, but if anybody knows, please fill me in. Hope you enjoy, Skew!~ I liked your letter and couldn't resist writing you a thing. <3

It was all so unfair, Ford thought, settling back for a good night's hopeless staring. It was one thing for small-minded Earth creatures to spend their whole lives milling about on this boring rock; they didn't know what they were missing. But what about him? He, who had eaten star kraken casserole prepared by the inverted chefs of Mettondura? He, who had been violently ill in orbital taxis up and down the galaxy (often after chancing it on a dodgy Mettonduran casserole)? He was a hitchhiker, a make-doer, always moving on to new and more pleasurable pastures. Ford Prefect wasn't supposed to be the kind of person who took boring tips about boring jobs from boring strags in boring pubs.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy pilot spec: DON'T PANIC by
vincentEL
Fandom: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Pairing/Characters: Ford, Arthur, Trillian, Zaphod, Prosser, Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz, Marvin, a couple of misc. OCs
Rating: General
Words: 9120
Author's summary: Ford Prefect is a travel writer stranded on some backwater planet named after dirt. Arthur Dent is a native of said planet, who finds himself in conflict with the local government. Then the Vogon fleet arrives. Pilot teleplay for a fake Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy TV series. Done as an exercise in expansive adaptation and a fun thing to read with friends (and it was; feel free to try it). Was never meant to be a real thing. Contains expanded backstory to make up for lack of narration.
Author's notes: This might be a bit unorthodox for a fanfic site, but I did this purely as a writing exercise. This is a pilot script for a hypothetical Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy TV series (not the one in development at Hulu; this was written before that was announced and was never meant to be sold or even seen by anyone except friends in a group reading). The challenge I set out for myself was to adapt the beginning of the first book (and, by extension, radio series) for a visual medium without relying on tools such as voice over narration (not counting when the Guide is speaking within the scene) and descriptions of visual elements and past events, while still conveying the information and humor found in the prose. This means I had to invent entirely new scenes (and minor characters) based on things that were only passingly mentioned or hinted at in the source material in order to get some ideas across, and I tried my best to channel Douglas Adams's voice and tone. I also aimed to expand on the story in ways that only television could. As a result, the story begins at an earlier point than any existing version, and focuses as much on Ford as on Arthur. Sadly there's not a large amount of Trillian and Zaphod in it (sorry, Tripod fans, they're in it but not much), but feel free to imagine that the second episode is all about them and takes place in parallel, expanding on their backstory in a similar way, as that's what I'd write next if I were inclined to continue the exercise (which I briefly considered actually doing, but then the Hulu announcement came and it seemed less important). I anticipate somebody's going to be confused that I created Neve Zermub instead of using Zarniwoop, whose role is, at least on the surface, very similar. That's complicated and to be honest I've forgotten a lot of what I had in my head while writing it, but basically I wanted the Editor in Chief and the CEO to be separate entities, partially because they might have different motives. This is all hypothetical long term big picture grand conspiracy plotting stuff that would only matter if this were a real show, so it's basically just me overthinking it. I also anticipate that somebody will note that the Megadodo sentinel robots are basically the Blagulon Kappan cops crossed with the philosophers, to which I say...yes. I wanted a scene in the style of those scenes without transcribing either of them (because I figured it would help me find the voice), so I wrote one. It's also a quick way to establish what kind of person Ford is. As for the odd song choices, the lyrics were just too fitting.

He came back, but he had to publicly apologize and denounce his faith just to get the religious mob off his back. That's when he wrote "Well, That About Wraps It Up For God".

Rating: Teen (PG-13)
Words: 10556
Author's summary: Was Dumbledore really stupid to trust Snape?
Author's notes: I have been accused of having a Snape suicide fetish. This is yet another story in that vent. [sic] According to The Harry Potter Lexicon, in 1980, sometime before Harry was born, Sybill made the Prophecy – I'm assuming this happened in the Spring. This story occurs in the following Fall of 1980, a few months after Harry was born. It is not until October of 1981, a year later, and over a year after Harry was born, that Voldemort murdered Lily and James.
Author's warnings: Suicidal thoughts
My comment: "Pretty neat how you weren't too far off DH canon with this." (Note that this story was written in July-December 2005.)
Quote:
He turned around, a look of horror, and of wonder on his face. "You are unbelievable." He rolled his eyes to the ceiling. "What did you expect? Some great confession? Did you think I would fall on my knees and repent?"
"Do you repent?"
The black eyes were fierce. "Do you even care? Don't try for one moment to make me think you care. You never did, before. It IS too late, old man. Do you not understand this?"

Author's notes: I really tried making research for this one but I assume that it might not be completely realistic, if only because the time frame is short. This fic is the start of a small series where I explore what Campbell was like before Eddie entered the picture, so it's (for now) entirely pre-canon. Please note that Takin' Over the Asylum aired in 1994 and things have changed since. There is no intent to downplay or ridicule mental illnesses.
