Plus, I was only about 14. Mind you, I did have two gay uncles and my best friend was gay. It wasn't the slash that got to me, I just could not figure out how mpreg was biologically possible! I still can't! Maybe it's some sort of seahorse gene?
LOL, don't think I've seen anyone try to use that explanation. You get a lot of easy "outs" in Harry Potter slash, of course, because everything boils down to "a wizard did it", hehe.
Yeah, I don't really read mpreg. It just doesn't appeal to me. Like you, I always have my head cocked to one side in confusion, trying to figure out just how the hell that happened, and why on earth the two guys in question would have wanted it to in the first place.
It's really just another attempt to feminize males, I remember someone on Slashcast citicquing a fic and saying the slash relationship was less about two males and more about two girls with strap-ons. If people want to read a fic with pregnancy as it's theme, there is always het.
But I'm very picky with Slash, I don't think there are many males in HP that fit well with my image of Snape. . . and Snapefic is all I read.
I've written a few Snape/Regulus implied shorts for my own personal enjoyment. I haven't actually gone and read anything in the SS/RB fandom, I don't have much time for fanfic reading at the moment. : ( But I do enjoy Severus/Regulus and Snupin.
I hate Sirius, James, Lucius, Dumbledore, Draco, Wormtail, Voldemort, and I'm not a big fan of Harry, Ron, Longbottom, or just about any other male character. Besides Snape, I mainly enjoy the female characters of the series so I stick mostly to het.
I have a deep love for AU Snily, but I can't stand what JKR did to Lily in DH. I think it was unfair to both her and Severus, and I could rant about everything from Lily's seemly obliviousness to Severus's love to . . . well, I'll save the rant. I prefer my own personal Lily.
snupin and severus/regulus are my faves as well. I've written a couple of implied sev/reg fics and one where they kiss, but that's it. I enjoy reading good snupin immensely, but I don't write it, as I fear I wouldn't be able to pull it off.
I prefer my own personal Lily too ;-), though when writing them as teens I will sometimes keep it slightly canon, but flesh out her character more, and try to figure out her motivations and stuff. Stuff that Rowling just failed to give us (whether do to lack of time, space or interest I just don't know).
I started with LotR slash, too, although at the time I still tended to read it with one eyebrow raised ("this is so weird, I almost can't believe I'm reading it") and to skim over the buttsecks.
One of the most richly erotic such things I ever read was an Elrond/Legolas (I think) where one of them sang to the other in Sindarin while they were getting it on. It sounds kind of silly when I put it like that, but really, it's something you can get away with in elfslash if you do it right. Plus, I am a bit of a language geek.
Oh, that really does sound erotic! Not silly at all! I was seriously into Tolkien around 14/15 and actually tried learning a bit of Elvish, I knew a couple phrases and greetings but I can't remember any of it now. Beautiful language though, based on Finnish I think . . .
BTW, I'm really enjoying your stories. I'm kicking myself that I haven't reviewed yet, but I've been quite busy. : (

Quenya shares some characteristics with Finnish; Sindarin is more like Welsh.
Only thing I can rattle off the top of my head (besides common stuff like "Ai! Laurie lantar lassi surinen...") is Mana nan unyarima na; mai tulle' ni Laisilmenorello ("what I am is unknown, but I come from the green-and-starlight-shining lands") which took me quite some time to learn to construct, what with the noun inflections in Quenya that don't really appear in English and all.
digitalsidhe is the person I know most into this kind of stuff; he even used to do Tengwar calligraphy by commission.
Impressive! I've been out of the Tolkien fandom for sometime, I would sound like a newbie if I tried to hold any sort of intelligent discussion. I shall listen to your greater knowledge, it was Welsh not Finnish.
That's a hoot! Never saw that one before so I read the ones before it. Uhm... I think I need a Hannelore. Because, I think I AM Marigold. (Only without any of the techno-geek abilitiles, sadly.) *looks around* Yep, I definitely need Hannelore. And she needs to bring that suit.

And yeah, Hannelore's superpower is her massive OCD plus an aversion to germs and dirt and stuff that would do Lady Macbeth proud.
