via [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole, who says "This is a revised version of the fandom relationships meme currently going around". I haven't seen the original, so I'm using a few of xirs; I couldn't fill them all in, probably because I don't have a long enough history. Note that I am referring only to Harry Potter fandom here. I could also probably have taken a stab at it for MST3K, but the nature of that fandom is kind of unlike any other I've had contact with, and it might be hard to interpret the questions in a way that made sense.

The one who brought a toothbrush on the second date and never moved out again: Marauder-era fics involving Snape. No slash, or Lily for that matter, required, although both are appreciated; it just seems I can't get enough of the wounded/brilliant/"oddball who is up to his eyes in Dark magic" teenager act.

The one who's dated everyone you know, and you just don't *get* it: Snape/Hermione. I am not any less squicked by Snape/Harry or Snape/Draco in terms of the age difference and teacher/student dynamic, but of the three, Snape/Hermione makes me go "but WHY would you want to do that?" the most. Also Severus/Remus, but that's more just "...whut?" than any specific issue with it.

The friend who's the sweetest person in the world but the chemistry's just not there: Probably Severus/Lucius. I want to like it, and I do in a detached way, but ... yeah. I think what it is is that I have not really bothered to make my own mental picture of Lucius besides the one in the movies (as opposed to my harem assortment of Severii, where dear Alan is in various pretty and not-so-pretty company), and while he's a great Lucius, I just don't feel the desire to devote a lot of brain cycles to "watching" him. Also I am not that fond of him as a character if he is not given more background complexity than I see in the books -- villain cachet only goes so far and I often find myself just wanting to gag him and slap him. (BDSM fic notwithstanding as I don't really enjoy that, heh.)

The one who converted you. To something. Severus/Sirius. I thought slash was kind of silly, and was good-naturedly amused at people who bothered to write it, until I started reading this stuff. Snack actually converted me to HP fandom in general.

The attractive friend of a friend you keep running into at parties and chatting with and would really like to get to know better: Nextgen-fic (i.e. Albus Severus, Scorpius, James II...). Of course this is only just starting to appear compared to the existing mountains of other genres, but fic like "Shadow of our Fathers" makes me think this setting has potential. (Let's all do JKR one better. Or... ten better.)

Sometimes OOC works because it's funny.

Sometimes OOC works in spite of itself: "I don't think ____ would really say or do that, but I kind of like it anyway"; it somehow winds up in harmony with the canon character.

But sometimes OOC is just bad.

SEVERUS SNAPE DOES NOT TICKLE PEOPLE.

Even if he's fifteen.

This means you.

(As you were.)

Clango sez: "There's nothing quite like the love of a miserable woman. When someone that cranky and mean-spirited loves you, you must be special!"

And thus, the desire of so many for a certain Potions master's attentions is explained. *chuckles*

(fortunately for me, I have my very own cranky, mean-spirited [livejournal.com profile] enotsola. ^_^)

(fun from MSN!)

"If these guys [the terrible band in the movie] get any more soul, we'll have to order out for greens."

i don't think there is any possible AU in which snape could get that kind of soul.

i mean, i can make him southern... but he's, like, a confederate plantation owner.

that's about as close as he can get to that concept

which is not very.

maybe...

maybe like, in the 50s, like, a beatnik.

you know, wearing all black and drinking too much coffee and being all disaffected with THE MAN.

listening to avant garde jazz.

and jazz has some relationship to soul.

omg beatnik!snape FTW.

The constraint of drabble format is interesting: it forces you to choose your words carefully because you only have 100 of them to spend. "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." (Antoine de Saint-Exupery)

This came like *BAM* when I was reading back a little to see how many posts I had made today, and chuckled briefly at this post where I quoted an amusing line from today's Diesel Sweeties. Suddenly I found myself opening a blank text document and babbling.

And my soul? )

first draft was 146 words )

Arethinn says:
ya, listening to a sample of Yorkshire speech, i think i have got to go along with the fanon idea that Snape, if from that area (people like to set Spinner's End in northern industrial England) must have done some dialect lessons or something, a la My Fair Lady...
because sorry, that accent just doesn't go with the way his lines are written, and i can't imagine anything that "country" coming out of his mouth.

Oolon Colluphid says:
hmmm.. does muggle world accents match the magic world ones?

Arethinn says:
i suppose there's also an argument that they might not
i saw a fic which had some throwback vocabulary on the idea that wizarding language doesn't change as fast as muggle language, and what with all the latin incantations, might have retained more archaic, more latin forms of some english words
but then, that also kind of depends on your ancestry
and in the case under consideration, tobias snape was a muggle
but yeah, i've always imagined that they were just like muggle accents, since she seems to have made everything else relatively matching the modern world
also, it is lulzariffic to picture snape as undergoing the eliza doolittle treatment (even though cockney is totally not yorkshire)
alternatively, "The rain in Spain is mainly something Longbottom couldn't brew if you sent him out in a downpour with a cauldron ten feet across."
