Title: Severus Snape and the Grudging Fact-Check; or, The Adventures of Eurus Ainsworth, Magical Maintenance
Challenge: #198 The First Paragraph
Rating: G
Characters: Severus Snape
Words: 200
A/N: I wanted to use the ending line, which is what came into my head first, but had to set the scene for that; the first 100 words is what actually complies with the prompt, but the punchline is in the second 100. Why Snape is writing humorous young-adult fiction with nods to the exploits of a certain pair of Weasleys, I have no idea (maybe he needs a hobby to take his mind off all that spying business); amusing as it is, it seems rather OOC, so I expect he is doing it under a pen name. And yes, I am poking a little fun at nitpicky fans like myself. ;)
( It had been promising to be a routine day... )
p.s. On the names of the characters Snape is writing: I rather like the name "Eurus Ainsworth". I usually have trouble coming up with good Wizarding names, but I think I hit a sweet spot with that one. (Eurus is the East Wind in Greek myth, if you don't know.) "Simon" merely happens to be one of my favourite masculine names (for no reason I am aware of).
