Better Homes and Dungeons by [insanejournal.com profile] the_con_cept (Severus/Harry, NC-17, 8100 words)
Snape discovers Harry has an unusual fetish and sets out to indulge it. How far will he go to keep his man satisfied? Pretty damned far, as it turns out.
Warnings: Occasional puns, AU, fetishes, established relationship, voyeurism/exhibitionism and literal curtain!fic.

My comment: Heee! I needed a laugh about now. :) Well, that kind of says it; this is just fun and a bit silly (see "warnings").

Favorite line: Draco sat up suddenly. “I’m greener pastures,” he said. “I mean, you know. If you’re going strictly by the greenness of the pasture, then certainly mine is greener than yours.”

“You either need a lesson in anatomy or an appointment with a mediwizard,” Snape said grumpily.

Circle by Padakin (Severus-Lily angsty friendship, PG, 786 words)
Five times Severus Snape called for Lily Evans.

My comment: No comment to quote/link to. It's a nice little drabble series with good imagery and emotion.

-----

The laboratory, late at night by Mary West (Severus, G, 101 words)

My comment: Very nice! There's so much bad fan poetry out there; this is very refreshing. I like the delicate feel of the description. I think the iambic pentameter is not quite perfect (but maybe you weren't going for that), but the sonnet is a difficult form however you slice it, and this is a nice one.

-----

Slytherin Pygmalion by Swallow B. (Severus, Lucius, cameo from Draco, G, 776 words)
"Longbo'em's cowdjen's on faa". Another reason why Neville Longbottom gets on Professor Snape's nerves.

My comment: I love this. I always pictured that Severus must have filed the edges off his northern speech in this sort of way, yeah.

("The Scotch and the Irish leave you close to tears; there even are places where English entirely disappears! In America, they haven't used it for years." lol.)

The Summer of the Phoenix by Jolie (Remus, Sirius, Dumbledore, trio, etc., gen, PG, 75187 words)
Have you ever wanted to know how No. 12 Grimmauld Place became the Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix? Have you ever wanted to see a meeting of the Order, and how they came to accept Sirius back into their ranks? Have you ever wondered what life at Grimmauld Place in these weeks must have been like for Sirius, Remus, the Weasleys and the rest of the Order? In short: Have you ever wished that OOTP had come with a long prologue? It does now. This story bridges the gap between the events concluding "Goblet of Fire" and the day Harry arrives at Headquarters, told from Sirius Black's point of view. 100% canon; lots of angst and drama; mild hints of romance (no slash).

My comment: The FictionAlley review system doesn't make it very easy to go back and find whatever comments I might have left, but on chapter 2: Nice so far. I like everyone's characters - the encounter with Kreacher "Oh, Master has returned!" was priceless. Pretty rare I read canon genfic but I am really getting a canon-style feel off this. This is an old one, written in 2003, but my recollection is that it stands up to later canon quite well.

The Band Plays On by [personal profile] melisus (art by [livejournal.com profile] glockgal (The Beatles, the Marauders, gen, G, 1212 words)
Everyone thought that when the 60's ended, so did the Beatles. But in 1971 they turned up again... the muggles just didn't know it.

My comment: This is SO AWESOME. [livejournal.com profile] glockgal's art was very sweet and clever to begin with (favorite detail: Ringo handing the cup of tea to Severus), but I adore the way [personal profile] melisus expanded on the personalities of the Beatles as they might be as teachers at Hogwarts and what houses they would have belonged to.

-----

I Was Right by Earthwalk (Severus, various Slytherins, Lily, mostly gen, PG-13, 66k words)
Severus Snape's years at Hogwarts, from entrance to graduation.
Warnings: Not Book 5 compliant yet, if ever. Some romance with Lily.

My comments: Even given the various bizarro-world-feeling differences between what we now know is canon and what you've written (such as pureblood Severus with a brother named Septimius and the scene with James telling Sirius to stop fighting Severus), I rather like the writing and the characterization of Severus - even though that too is off from what I would now consider to be proper after 7 books. It's like looking at it from a whole different angle.

and

"the deep and dark joy of knowledge."

Ooh yes. Wonderful way to put it. Very Severus.

I like how even given the truly Dark propensities he has in this fic, Severus still doesn't really want to be a Death Eater.

See the warning; this is a very, very old fic as these things go, completed in April of 2001. Thus we see, as you might expect, a pureblood Snape and the trappings that go with that. But for all that I like its exploration of him, Lily, his relationship to his fellow Slytherins, and at the end his impending entry into the Death Eaters.

Accounting for Regulus by [insanejournal.com profile] pollicem (Severus/Regulus, R, 4000 words)
Marauders’ era, mostly within-canon. Severus and Regulus fall in love. You know exactly how it ends. There are three different plotlines, happening at three different times in the characters’ lives. Their telling is intermingled, though linear within each storyline.
Warnings: canonical death

My comment: Oh wow, right in the heart-place, this one.

Favorite line: Regulus's fingertips say, "Fuck, I missed you, I'm sorry."
And Severus's shoulders say, "Where the hell were you?"
And thumb stroking spine says, "You know I can't tell you."

Here Is the Deepest Secret Nobody Knows by (anonymous as yet) in [insanejournal.com profile] dark_flowers (Severus/Lily kinda unrequited, Remus/Severus, Lily/James, PG-13, 1041 words)
I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart.

My comment: Oh my god. This was wonderful and so poignant--

!

(there now, I'm punctuating like cummings. oy.)

Favorite line: Then: “Severus— You’re my best friend—

He laughs. What he says: “Bet you say that to all the boys.”

What he doesn’t say: My heart, my heart my heart—

Bravery and Begemot by (as yet anonymous) in [livejournal.com profile] regulus_fest (Regulus, Kreacher, G, 2100 words
Regulus is afraid of the snow.

My totally useful comment: Awwwww! This is about little-boy Regulus, fears and bravery, a toy animal, and a friendship with a house-elf.
