I think I've just got what weirds me out so much about Reader x Character fanfic: I typically can't imagine myself saying the lines and acting in the ways the "you" does. It's really jarring.

What does "Reader x Character fanfic" mean? Is that when it's written in the second person? Like, you go down the stairs, you turn around, you rip of Lucius' pants (oops, that last bit was me...).

Right, that kind of thing. Not all fic in the second person is meant to be reader-insert; second person can be used effectively. But it's "reader paired with character" I meant. The "x" was used in the pairing sense e.g. SeverusxSirius.
