I think this is more about phonology (patterning of sounds and which are considered more correct or more pleasing in a language) than grammar, since it's about the formation of ship smush names from character names and what unspoken rules fandom seems to follow for them, but still, cool article.

I must be a failure as a shipper since I always feel dopey using a smush name for a pairing.

Yeah, there are some that seem to come with a built-in eyeroll. "Snack" still amuses me but I've always been iffy on some of the other Snape ones, despite their prevalence. "Sn" isn't exactly a graceful consonant (though it was interesting to learn there was an actual named reason it tends to dominate in smush names formed from it), so I've always preferred to say "Severus/Lily" rather than any of the smush possibilities, like Snily, Snevans, or even Severily.

Snupin always amuses me since it sounds like "Snoopy" but yeah, Snily...ugh.

For me the worst ones are the Harry ones. Whenever I read "Snarry" I hear it in my head with this whine like Snaaaaarry. *shudder* I almost always write SS/HP.
