I am in the midst of a slightly tongue-in-cheek conversation about how Snape could be compared to Azazel, the scapegoat, including the whole link to the Luciferian "God's primary angel rebels but eventually his 'evil' acts result in redemption" thing. Very esoteric, really. Probably the most serious-geeky line of discussion I have been involved in, any fandom, since the "let's discuss theory of crime, punishment, and racial profiling via X-Men" thing I did with
enotsola.
In short, I think JKR has manged to tap way deeper into the collective unconscious than she is willing to admit, or is even aware of. (Like duh?)
