Petition to stop making Harry Potter's "actual" name be Harold, Harrison, or (rather inexplicably, to me) Hadrian?

I do hope that's only happening in fanfic, and not something that JK is adding to the canon? It's pretty clear from the outset that his given name is Harry. Petunia comments on it in the first book, saying something like "it's a nasty, common name." That's something you say about a given name, not a nickname.

On the one hand, yes absolutely, on the other hand ridiculous names are fun in fics that I don't take seriously anyway. How about Haroldus, for that heir-to-Roman-Emperors AU? ^^

Well, if it's some kind of off the wall different setting AU, that's different. But some people just ... do this in their fic... for no real reason I can see other than that they think it sounds cooler?
