Hmmm... Snarku. That format/idea has lots of fun potential. *files away for future amusement*

The Sorcerer's Stone Rifftrax is pretty good, to judge from the oh, eight minutes of it I've listened to so far. A couple minutes of the opening, then straight to the Potions speech (you were expecting...?), which, actually, they let comparatively alone (more of the jokes are about the kids).

[Dumbles doing the Deluminator schtick]
Kevin [i think]: Yeah, call me back when it can steal your neighbour's cable.

[McGonagall in cat form outside 4 Privet Drive]
Mike [i think]: I can has wizard?

(that one made me literally lol.)

[Hermione with her hand practically touching the ceiling in Potions]
Mike: Yes, Hermione McButtkiss?

[Seamus doing the silly water-into-rum bit]
Mike: Can we get some subtitles for him?

So yeah, worth the $4, I imagine.

Ones with Kevin, Mike, and Bill really are my favourites because to the ears, it's just like seasons 8-10 of MST3K. All I need is to break out that little paper silhouette I got with my fan club kit lo those many years ago and stick it on the TV.

An unmined plotbunny (how's that for mixing one's metaphors), at least I haven't seen any fic using this idea; and/or, if you are a Lily-hater, a way to edit her out of Severus's motivations:

We know from HBP that the silvery liquid stuff of memories can be altered to show scenes that never took place. The only example we are actually shown is when it is done badly. What if it were done well? What if the memories Snape gives Harry were anywhere from partly to completely false, a story crafted to get him to do what he's supposed to do, and Harry (ever attuned to subtlety and never jumping to conclusions, bless his heart) couldn't tell the difference?

Obviously it requires advance preparation on Snape's part, but if anyone could pull it off in terms of the skill level required, I'd think it would be him.

(Mutaremency, anyone?)

HP character "combatibility" quiz. Ha. Makes the result that much more amusing. And without stuffing the ballot box, even. Read more... )

I keep seeking out Deathly Hallows meta, even reading back over lengthy discussions in which I participated in the first place. I know what I think of most of the events ("I confess myself... disappointed") and the apparent message ("...ick"); at least, I think I do. But I am still coming to terms with all the people. I have not got my emotions sorted out yet. What do I really think and feel about Dumbledore, Harry, Sirius, Lupin, Lily, James...?

Notice Severus himself isn't on that list, but the most problematic of course is the whole Severus/Lily thing. I have a serious love/hate relationship with that. I'll spare you gory details, which I have erased three sets of in this post. (DH is enough dull exposition without me adding to the heap. ^_~) But I am coming to the conclusion that part of what I love is a "might have been" kind of ideal, and not what we are actually shown. (Any resemblance to the inclinations of Potions masters living or dead is purely coincidental.)

I find it a little strange that my brain apparently can consider a book to be a trauma or shock that has to be coped with, not to mention that the processing is still going on four months later.
