I know the sort of thing they probably mean, but I can't help thinking this adverb was an unclear choice, because it brings to mind a lot of other (rather silly) possibilities for the nature of the violence:
With a sword?
In the middle of a screaming fit?
By swinging the pot in a wild arc so as to roughly sling the stuff into the cup?
By bashing the pot against your head repeatedly until maybe some gets in your mug?
Or perhaps, since this is Severus before coffee, with a nice hearty Cruciatus?
(Oh please, someone please draw Snape in a dressing gown yelling "Crucio!" at a coffee pot.)
