Full disclosure: I am not personally thrilled with the visual result of
foxestacado's finally-completed painting of Severus Snape (I have grown too fundamentalist, I think, about certain aspects of his appearance, and I find it difficult to see him in that portrait), but I love that she says this about her experience with it:
I am actually not 100% satisfied with this painting, but I feel this is as close as I can get to my personal idea of Severus Snape from the books. Perhaps because I feel so close to Severus Snape in the books, that his essence, his personality, is more than what a two-dimensional picture can entail. He is a soul to me, one of the most tragic figures in literature, and became a myth, which goes beyond its physical manifestation, and perhaps for that reason, I am never truly happy with my paintings of him, a mere attempt at a physical representation.
