Completely Unhelpful Summary of the Day:

Severus/Lily. "What, did you lose an earring?" he said weakly, in case he was wrong about her intentions.

I know that mostly what we call "summaries" at the tops of our fics are really better described as "teasers" or "descriptions of the setup", because they do not describe the story in full through to the end. And a pull quote can sometimes serve the purpose of being a teaser. But, um. Yeah.

Yeah, I have no problem with summaries just setting up the basic premise without being terribly descriptive ("so-and so discovers a mystery in the Hogwarts library", or "Character X and Character Y celebrate Christmas together"). I also don't have a problem with using a quote from the story itself, as long as it gives you an idea of the premise (in the latter, you might have a sentence where Char. X asks Char. Y to spend Christmas with them; boom, there's your premise). But you need to give readers SOME idea of what the story about, or why bother?
