I think Benedict Cumberbatch looks like some kind of weird alien* and I do not find him attractive at all. To each her own, of course, but I just don't get it.

I mean. Just.

I don't see it.

Today's episode of unpopular opinions has been brought to you by "I did not follow anyone on tumblr for Sherlock so what is all this Sherlock doing all over my dash."**

---

* I wanted to make a totally-looks-like comparison with a picture of a "grey", but his eyes, though creepily wide-set, are not actually large enough to make the point.

** I know tumblr is for whatever the hell you feel like posting and hey if it really bugs me that much, unfollow. Jus' sayin', sometimes I don't get who fandom elects as hawt.

he IS odd looking. I dont like him as much as Bene as I do Sherlock. He was a very weak chin/jaw in profile, but looks ok from the front. If you've seen Atonement they played up on his ugliness quite effectively, making him look like the inbred creep that he was...

as far as attractive goes, I think I want to be him, since he'd be HELL to be involved with. John Watson, while not a pin-up beauty, looks right cuddly to me.

I will second the "some kind of weird alien" judgment call, and say that I enjoy that kind of thing. If he had tentacles, he'd be perfect.

Hey, you know you can block stuff you don't like with Tumblr Savior, right? Might save you the trouble - I've used it to block stuff I don't care to see. Seriously, it's a godsend. :)

I agree! I don't dislike him as an actor, and I do like Sherlock, but I don't find him attractive at all.

[identity profile] dancinglights.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he does too, and it's much of why I find him attractive.

[identity profile] dancinglights.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
(Namely, he looks funny about the same way Cull does. I have Types.)

Boyfriend of six years. Of whom I have few to no good pictures, and who keeps thwarting me when I try to fix this. I don't think you were ever co-located for a camping event.

[identity profile] dancinglights.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
heh. Right. Whereas I don't so much have a tipping point as a couple elf-based Types with a continuum from reasonably attractive normal human-looking to Hot.

I find him downright odd looking, but, weirdly, that's the appeal. I've heard people who really can't stand the look of him say that he is 'horse faced', and I do sort of see where they are getting that from, however unflattering such a reference is.

Honestly, I've seen him in a few other things, and he doesn't seem as intriguing or appealing. So, for me at least, I think that most of the attraction comes from the personality traits of the Sherlock character. I'm sure that is some sort of disturbing statement on my psychological issues, but there it is...

Yes. This.

And surprisingly, in the Sherlock fandom, this isn't really that unpopular of an opinion. Sorry [livejournal.com profile] shyfoxling you're going to have to do better to shock us. :))

LOL! Frankly, I find a lot of the people my f-list routinely drools over to be grossly unappealing! Believe me, I grasp the concept of ugly-sexy, but most of those people are just ugly-ugly. XD

It's the eyes, they're so far apart and that lantern jaw and the overly bowed upper lip and...ick. He has nice hair though.

[identity profile] ragdoll.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I've known about him for years and never once thought he was even remotely cute. Good actor, but does nothing for me. The current worship of him both boggles me and annoys me.

When I first became aware of him, I seriously didn't understand his face. Frankly, I still don't, but I find him compelling and attractive if not exactly hot in the physical sense. It's much the same for me and my vision of Snape in my head--not conventionally attractive but there's an intensity in him that I am drawn to and that makes him sexy to me. Cumberbatch's Sherlock has that sort of draw for me, and that makes him more physically attractive to me. I've watched him in another BBC period miniseries, and he's different but still fascinating, especially for that long, lean body type even if his face is incomprehensible. :)

[identity profile] dixiebell12.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's all about the character he plays, for me. Take Alan Rickman, he's okay until you put him in Snape's character and I'm drooling. Plus Cumberbatch has a voice that almost rivals Rickman's.

Dix

As my Mother always said, life would be pretty boring if we all liked the same sort of men - though her tastes and mine were more or less in concord, and I doubt she'd have seen what all the Cumbersquee is about either.

He has nice cheekbones - if you're into cheekbones.

Not my favourite Holmes.

ETA - It's a typical 'British upper class twit' sort of face (see also Hugh Grant) - maybe that's the attraction?

I am thoroughly in the squee camp (and was well before sherlock, so although sherlock does take it to helpless squee, it's not just the character). Something about the eyes and the voice and the intensity do ping the elf/fae filters for me, but I'm quite partial to asian faces so the "odd" proportions may favour that aspect of my taste.

Agrees. No likes from me... ugh
