Quibbles about why companions these days must always be 21st century women (although I suppose that's not confirmed yet) aside, Iiiii may already love Bill in a way I never really did Clara. I dunno. It just feels like in a few seconds of screentime I've already made some kind of emotional connection to her that was hard for me to do with Clara. (I liked Oswin and governess Clara was also good, but as a whole... meh.) IDK. There's just something about her that excites me a bit, where Clara did not...?

Some people are speculating based on her clothes in the teaser that Bill might be from the 1980s.

Moffat confirms in the new DWM that Bill is from our present day.

Both RTD and Moffat have tried to get historical companions through in the past, but this seems to scare commissioners at BBC One.
