Warner Bros. trademarks 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' name, possibly for film
It seems like fans' wishes for a possible Harry Potter and the Cursed Child adaptation to the film screen might slowly be coming to fruition. If this is true, the eighth story in Harry Potter's saga, post-Deathly Hallows epilogue, would be the ninth (and maybe tenth if split into two) feature film.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. recently trademarked the name 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child', and this can include rights to everything from films to merchandise. The trademark was set in the U.K. though the company listed is Warner Bros. in the U.S., the production company behind the first eight Harry Potter movies.
Ugh, please no. I mean, not at all surprising that they trademarked it. Of course they did. But if anything I've heard about that play is true, Merlin preserve us from a film, or two films (which it probably would be since isn't there going to be more than one play, or something?).

It's already two plays--you have to go back a second night. One of the (many) reasons I really loath it. Pure ka-ching!

I've not followed HP news since Deathly Hallows 2 came out, so please explain, what's Cursed Child and what's wrong with it?

Personally, I'm disappointed to hear that they've extended Harry's story. I don't mind them expanding the universe, but Harry's story was was nicely encapsulated in the books. In my experience, in most cases, when the author had a single self-contained story and then chose to extend it due to market pressure, it didn't work well.

Wow. I read through part of the first thread, and man, that thing sounds terrible. It really does sound like bad fanfiction, and if it's as bad as it sounds, it can impact the reputation of the original series.

Thank you also for telling me about "My Immortal". Being sheltered in my tiny corner of one fandom, I'd never heard about it, but it was very entertaining - and appalling - to read about it in Wikipedia. :)
