Apparently this guy has been cast as Gellert Grindelwald. I dunno how much I buy it. He's certainly not like the Gellert I imagine (which is more like, I dunno, maybe this), but maybe slap a blond wig on him, and I could see how he'd have run away with young Albus's heart.

I agree with you completely. I pictured someone with more chiseled looking facial features, curly blond hair, and more dominant look about him. The guy they cast is just too girly.

Eh, it isn't "girly" I disagree with per se. I think he probably should be somewhat fine-featured. I just dunno about this guy in particular.

Hmm, I know what you mean - he's a bit pretty, isn't he? Still, I've never seen him acting, so if he's skilled enough perhaps he'll pull it off. I wonder how much of the AD/GG story they'll put into in the film/s?

I can't say I really had a Gellert I Imagined, but when I clicked on the pictures my immediate reaction was positive, a "yeah, he looks like a good Gellert to me." He seems to be wearing eyeliner in the first couple of pictures, which might be skewing some people's perception towards "pretty boy." I just get a vibe of young and good-looking and straight from a poster of Germanic youth, which I would guess is what they're going for. He also looks to me like he could be the real-life inspiration behind the Gellert in the drawing so I don't really see a contrast between the two.

The real question is going to be how well he acts the part: If he can convey the right blend of charm and underlying menace, that would be very effective with his graceful, "beautiful boy" looks.

If I am not mistaken, this is the same young actor from Sweeney Todd, the young boy in love with Joanna, is it not? Well, he can sort of sing. Maybe he tempted Albus with his pretty singing voice ;-). That would sort of back up my theory that Albus had the hots for guys with gorgeous voices :-).

Bower doesn't look like my idea of Grindlewald either (he is rather good looking though), as I imagined Grindlewald looking fine featured and mischievous.

Although if he can act well, then I guess that's what mainly counts.
