My cataloging assistant just read this rather strange book summary aloud to me from the OCLC record:

A novel about a fifteen-year-old prostitute who is actually a 2,000-year old werefox--

Here I interrupted, "Is Stephenie Meyer at it again?"

--who seduces men with her tail and drains them of their sexual power. She falls in love with a KGB officer who is actually a werewolf.

I asked what the heck was the title of this thing, and it's the English translation from Russian of The Sacred Book of the Werewolf by Viktor Pelevin.

Bemused by all this, all I could think to say was, "Well, I guess there's not much else to do in Siberia."

Oddly, I don't feel at all compelled to read that novel.

Must be because I generally prefer mainstream to fantasy.

The book sounds awfully compelling, and compellingly awful.

Bwahaha! Your comments are made of Win.

The fact tha the girl is 15 years old and in love with an adult KGB officer certainly increases the 'Ew!' factor. This book sounds like a lot of the slew of vampire stories that are now available at the bookstore near where I live.
