Author's summary: Once one has uncovered a set of nineteenth-century letters, one is forever an expert upon such discoveries, even if they entail the mathematical fantasia of a person such as Agnes Hart, niece to the famed educator Edwin Abbott Abbott.
Author's notes: August Möbius was a professor of astronomy and higher mechanics at the University of Leipzig until his death in 1868. A student of mathematical physics would have had many opportunities to learn of his ideas. I am indebted to Anja Warner's book The Transatlantic World of Higher Education for a sense of life among foreign students there in the nineteenth century (the women who attended courses at Leipzig included, among others, Anna Leonowens, whose writing inspired the musical The King and I; she studied Sanskrit).

...the Peace-cry has a purpose that serves Ladies themselves. For all of us know, from the time we are the smallest of girls, that if we do not maintain a constant movement or vibration, as is produced by the Peace-cry-- if we hold still for even the shortest of instants-- we may pierce the fabric of the World itself, and slip through to the other Side.

Author's summary: Many wagons fail to make it all the way to Oregon.
Author's notes: Story title from "Oregon Trail" by Marian Call. A very serious song for a very silly story, but what can you do.
Additional tags: Dialogue Heavy, Video Game Mechanics, Breaking the Fourth Wall, Yuletide Treat
Quote:
Nobody shrugged. "Somebody thinks they're being clever. Well, not Somebody back at my wagon with Anybody and Everybody, I mean. Someone else." Then, seeing She-Ra's confused expression: "Oh, wow. You don't know what I'm talking about. This is your first time on the Oregon Trail, isn't it?"
"What do you mean, my first time? Who would do this more than once?"
"You'd be surprised," said Nobody, laughing.

Rating: General audiences
Words: 8651
Author's summary: Murderbot doesn't want to be a hero or take part in someone's incredible journey. Why does it keep bumping into people who think it will?
Additional tags: Crossover, Travel, Time Travel, 5 Things, Grumpy AIs, Elevator Music, This is not a hero's journey okay
My comment: "I only understood the Star Wars, HHG, and Star Trek portions of this, but even though I'm not familiar with the POV character, I think you pretty much nailed those sections. HHG especially - I hearts Marvin :D"
Quote:
"Hey, don't go!" Luke said. "Don't you want to meet my friends?" The R2 unit spun on its castors with a whistle that carried a standard abbreviated Republic handshake request. The protocol droid made a small bow, polite as a butler. The spooky old guy smiled, and that smile was the worst. My organic parts had goosebumps.

Pairing/Characters: Stuart Semple, Anish Kapoor
Rating: General audiences

Author's summary: True black looks like Nothing. It looks like a hole in the fabric of space.
Author's notes: Note: I know neither of these artists personally, and almost none of the following is true (if unsure, check the footnotes). Then again, in Kapoor’s own words, “It seemed to me that art's all about illusion and the unreal.” So.
Additional tags: Epistolary, Unconventional Format
My comment: "This is among the most excellent things in the world. Kapoor can put his pink-coated pretension straight up his-- oh nevermind, it's Yule/New Year's! Really though. I applaud you most heartily."

If you use the color purple in a painting, however, they cannot sue you for it. That is not how intellectual property works. You must be a direct competitor with a global multinational corporation.
Are you a direct competitor of a global multinational corporation? Anish Kapoor is a direct competitor of Stuart Semple.

“Yeah,” said the other Doctor angrily, “So perhaps I killed him for bad reasons. Isn’t that better for you? ‘Cause it seems to me my world is still better, its people still safer. If I’d been noble it wouldn’t scare you as much, would it? But you can’t live with the idea of what I actually am. The thought that I could be selfish, and vain, and still have been better at being the Doctor.”

Rating: PG, for adult themes
Words: ~10,000
Author's summary: Snape has been sentenced to ten years hard labour for his actions in the war, but either Hogwarts itself has other ideas, or someone is trying to cause trouble. An elf has died and other lives are threatened. Snape has to solve the mystery to regain his freedom (or as much freedom as he is likely to get.)
Author's notes: Dear cleodoxa, I put together two of your prompts, of characters working together to get things done, plus solving a mystery at Hogwarts. I hope that you enjoy the results!
Author's warnings: m/f naughtiness but dammit, doesn’t Snape deserve it after all that angst?
My comment: "This is not usually my particular ship, but there's a different flavor to it post-war (and, I suppose, the ship content isn't overbearing anyway). It's very satisfying how everyone wants him back."
Quote:
‘How long do I have?’
‘That’s negotiable. The school needs to reopen but it has to be safe for the students, or as safe as Hogwarts ever was - which it wasn’t, let’s face it.’
‘Ah, I see.’
‘Do you?’
‘When this all goes tits-up, you’ll have the ideal person to blame, already in situ.’
‘Welcome to post-Voldemort reality, Snape.’

Nanny Ogg is ancient, undaunted, and invincible. She doesn't hesitate to make the trip down to the Chalk, though Tiffany offers to visit her in Lancre. She says she needs to assess Tiffany's Young Man.
Preston says he looks forward to learning from such a gifted practitioner of the obstetric science. Tiffany is reasonably confident he doesn't know what he's in for, and neither does the rest of the Chalk.
