So sweet. I love Severus's glasses and apparent age and the contented familiarity in him ruffling Harry's hair.

Connichi 2009 - poking Snape by ~HowellJenkinsSama on deviantART
There are some other photos of this interesting Snape cosplay as well. Normally I would say that nose prosthesis takes it over the top into slightly cruel caricature, but somehow it really brings this particular costume together.

The Long Road by ~TGP on deviantART
I loved the moody colour and how a frightened child grows into a sullen teenager, a disaffected adult, and then a total mystery with his back turned to the viewer. Very simply drawn but quite effective.

The Banes of Her Existence by *Vizen on deviantART
This made me LOL IRL. Just look at Severus and Minerva's poses and expressions, and Albus's drink with the umbrella! Poor woman, being headmistress and sharing an office with those two...

How Severus Got His Wand by

Severus acquires his wand.
Simple enough summary, yeah, and that's what it is, just a vignette of this occurrence -- twice. Nice characterizations.
It was as if a curtain opened before him, a universe of infinite stars and possibility, the black soft and cold to swallow him, heralding journeys through the scattering of stars of sharp, pure white light.

Severus learns to patrol.
More with the simple summaries. I said in my comment, "I like how the narrative breaks down into fewer and more broken sentences as time goes on," over the story's timeline of 1976 to 1981.
Severus knew perfectly well that most people had multiple reasons, mostly ephemeral, to choose one route over another.
He envied them.
To glimpse her, to avoid her, was his only choice.

Through the Looking Glass by Emily Waters (Severus/Lily, angsty, PG, ~900 words)
Severus watches the image of Lily in the Mirror of Erised...
...and finds that his true desire is changing over time. What he wants in his heart becomes more and more poignant as the fic goes on.
There's a child, green-eyed, and messy-haired. The boy looks like James, but he has Lily's eyes.
But it's what the child doesn't have, that matters most.
He doesn't have a scar on his forehead.
Instead, the child has parents who love him.

Even a Broken Clock is Right Twice a Day by

Ron thinks it’s completely unfair that everyone besides Harry is paired off. Ron takes it upon himself to correct this oversight.
I loved Ron in this; sweet and funny.
Harry hardly knew where to begin. "Ron. Did you fail to consider that not only is he Snape -Snape!- but he's a bloke. What if I told you I read an old quiz and it told me your perfect match was Snape?"
Ron slapped another slice of roast beef on his sandwich and looked at Harry like he had just suggested that Muggles could fly. Or possibly, that he should date Severus Snape.

Inconsolable, or How Harry Potter Stopped H8ing and Learned to Love Video Games by
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Harry Potter really sucks at video games. Draco Malfoy just sucks.
OMG, this was so hilarious at some points I nearly peed. The premise is pretty cracky, but I loves me some crack. Three words: The Nintendo Wiizard.
The game, of course, became a bestseller the instant it was released two months later, fueled both by the insatiable public appetite for anything having to do with Harry Potter, even twenty years after his heroic deeds, and by advance reviews in Game Wiz and other publications that praised the game's innovation, historical accuracy, and massive open world that gave players the opportunity to explore a variety of "what if" scenarios and see if they could defeat Voldemort in fewer steps, even, than the real Harry.

From the Dead by

The Veil had torn from top to bottom and he had arisen.
Sirius's troubled relationship to Harry, partly because of his past (slash) relationship to James, is the focus here. He's caught between family and friend and attraction. My comment: "Oh oh oh oh oh. So tender. So delicious. I love the way you've written their relationship, both their uncertain footings."
Just as when he looked at Harry and saw familiar glimpses of James, he looked at Teddy and saw traces of the past. He wanted desperately to see Remus reincarnate, just like he wished to see James recreated in Harry, but he didn’t. They were both gone.

Wild Horses by SlytherinPrincess81 (Severus/Lily, kinda fluffy romance/friendship, G, 3353 words)
A birthday surprise. The promise of a summer of love. One happy memory before that fateful spring when everything changed forever.
This is some "awwww!" before the "but we all know what happened". Centers on a special birthday present for Lily.
Actually, Severus thought, she did, since technically he had put a harmless Confundus Charm over the couple at the start of the queue in order to be the first to buy the tickets. But this one was a little peccadillo, totally justified by good means, which he could easily hide from her without feeling guilty. He was a Slytherin, after all, and all’s fair in love and war.

The End, in Three Acts by
![[profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I wrote this because I needed something more than that last conversation in their fifth year, to truly understand why Snape devoted his life to the service of her memory and to the repayment of his guilt. I think it's the most destructive thing, when friendship turns to hate, but it's also very easy.
Keep away if you're up to here with Severus/Lily angst, but I liked the way this one twisted my heart. I said (among other things): "*flail* Just... augh... yes... this is just so much the angsty tender pleasepleaseplease that I love in Severus/Lily fic. I'm going to have to go out and buy a hat just so I can take it off to you."
"Get out."
- You don't belong here, you don't belong with me. Not any more -
"No."
- You can't tell me what to do, Slytherin, you're not the boss of me -
"Get out!"
- I can't look at you anymore -
"I want to talk to you."
- I can't make my eyes look away now they've found you again -

Severe Reasoning by Rachel Indeed (gen/Severus-centric, PG, 4565 words)
A series of short vignettes which explore one logical man through the lens of another. Snape's life, set to Sherlock Holmes. It starts with rationality and ends with bumblebees.
This is in the vein of character portrait, from child to afterlife. I said: "Interesting concept and great prose, as always. [Rachel Indeed is one of the really good authors on Fanfiction.net] I especially liked his death and afterlife -- very powerful. The idea of having life's events writ upon the skin in light and shadow is evocative."
Potions captured him from the first; he had lived too long without beauty, and this art fed his starved senses like no other. Spells were tools of power, brutal and direct, and it hardly mattered what spark of color they shed in their flight. In Potions, everything counted; the scent, the heat, the subtle shifts of shade. Magic unfurled itself in tiny droplets and trained his hands to the slow task of creation.

It's a Kind of Magic by as yet anonymous (Severus/Lily, friendship, G, 1566 words)
"Severus finds that there’s magic in ordinary things."
This "ordinary thing" under consideration here is singing in a choir, which pushes my little button that Severus has a great singing voice. Lots of neat culture/class detail in this one. Overall a quiet and calm piece. (Features Anglican Snapes and Methodist Evanses, if you're turned off by religious details, but it's not really the focus.)
Lily skipped up to him in the playground at break time and said “Mam says that you’re to walk home with and Pet after school.” Severus looked at her slightly dazed. He wasn’t used to someone with so much bounce.
