If You Hold a Silmaril by [archiveofourown.org profile] amethysttribble
Fandom: J. R. R. Tolkien - Silmarillion
Characters: Fëanor, Thingol, Beren, Eärendil, Morgoth, Lúthien, Maedhros, Carcharoth, Varda, Dior, Mablung of Doriath, Sauron, Finwë, Elwing, Maglor
Rating: Teen
Words: 2819

Author's summary: If you hold a Silmaril, you might have to get to know Feanor and things might get a little weird.
Author's notes: Yes, you are supposed to read that last part to the cadence of 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie'. I just think parts of Feanor's soul are in those Silmarils and that exposure to them should make you a little weird!
Author's warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Additional tags: I just think it would be fun if everyone who had a Silmaril was also a little influenced by Feanor, and some liked him, some ignored him, some didn't even notice, but that was his creation and he was always there, because he is insufferable <3

Carcharoth burned. He cried. He wanted this to end.

There was something within that hated him. Furious and heated. It tasted like the sky at first, like the slight sting of stars except worse, and then it grew worse still.

The Wisdom of Isildur by Marnie (The Silmarillion Writers' Guild; also on AO3 under the name Potboy as archived from Henneth Annûn)
Fandom: The Silmarillion
Pairing/Characters: Celeborn, Elrond
Rating: General
Words: 3151

Author's summary: After Gil-Galad's death, Elrond and Celeborn talk power, allegiances and rings.

"Gil-Galad is dead," Elrond said, in a calm, strong voice, "And it was all in vain. Isildur wears the Ring of Power. On a chain around his neck for now, though how long that will last, I cannot guess."
At his shoulder, Glorfindel dismounted and Erestor came forward to speak to him. Between them the seneschals began the arduous task of seeing that all the warriors were quartered and eased as suited their valour and weariness.
"These tidings I have already heard," said Celeborn, with an edge of ice in his tone, and the light of his eyes chill.

Pairing/Characters: Sirius, Regulus, Walburga, Orion
Rating: General audiences
Words: 11819

Author's summary: The almost boring summer. Or, how Sirius ended up running away in the Renascentia-verse.
Author's notes: The title is from the David Bowie classic "Cat people."
Author's warnings: None

Quote:
“There’ve been muggle-born students at Hogwarts as long as it’s been there,” Sirius said, gamely. He knew this was a sensitive subject, but wasn’t in the mood to coddle. They’d had their chance for a quiet evening and had decided instead that this would be better. On their own heads be it. “Despite Salazar Slytherin having his head up his own arse.”

This story is a selection from the authors' renascentia series -- The Regulus Lives AU no one asked for. When we read about R.A.B., we thought the twist may be that Regulus was still alive. We've taken it back to shortly after Goblet of Fire to play with the idea and see how it impacts the storyline. -- currently up to about 135,000 words with the eponymous renascentia still a WIP at about 53,000 words. I read and would recommend them all, particularly making my own road out of gravel and some wine (and if I have to fall then, it won't be in your line) and they were kids that i once knew.

Aiya Eärendil Elenion Ancalima by [archiveofourown.org profile] bunn
Fandom: The Silmarillion
Pairing/Characters: Maglor | Makalaurë, Elrond, Frodo, Eärendil
Rating: General audiences
Words: 5526

Author's summary: Frodo Baggins and Maglor son of Fëanor have a chance-encounter with Elrond's father Eärendil on the shores of Tol Eressëa, and take him back to meet Elrond and Bilbo.
Author's warnings: None

My comment: "I think this is the one I've liked best in the series so far (I'm going in order). There is something about the presence of the hobbits' voices that throws the Elves into relief, whereas all Elves all the time is grand an all, but can get a bit heavy (somewhat like Frodo and Bilbo's observations about the effect of "more story")."

Quote:
“I’ve heard something of them, here and there, as it happens.” Eärendil’s voice was unhurried, considering. “But I had not realised that hobbits were so small.”
“Yes, everyone comments on it here,” Frodo said. “I fear it’s something I am unable to do anything about, though by now I’m starting to wonder if wearing a very tall hat would help.”

As mentioned in the comment, this is also one story out of a long series, Return to Aman, complete at ~147,000 words: A series of stories about Elrond's return to Aman at the end of the Third Age. All these assume that Maglor son of Fëanor was one of the other unnamed Elves who accompanied Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf, Frodo and Bilbo on the ship when they left Middle-earth. Point of view is usually either Maglor or Elrond, but occasionally someone else (Celebrian, Lalwen, Nerdanel...) The first story, And the wind as sweet as honey in the mouth, is about Maglor and Elrond meeting for the first time in the Second Age, rather than in Aman, but fits with the overall series otherwise. I'd also recommend the related Mandos series.
