Does anyone know if any video of the dancing Snape and duel with Voldy and Harry and stuff that took place onstage at Night of a Thousand Wizards while we were all pretending to be very hot, very disgruntled sardines has been posted on YouTube anywhere, or anything?

Any 'Puffs out there want some Hufflepuff beads?

These were on the feast tables at Infinitus (in all four house color sets). I dunno why I snatched them, particularly - I just had a thought someone "back home" might want them... No mailing charge or anything, just let me know if you want them.

A few pics of the works of the Forbidden Journey ride taken while the ride was broken down and lights were on. I had no idea we were that close to the spherical-slice projection screens I knew had to be there, and I had been imagining some kind of track rather than what looks to be kind of a giant mechanical octopus.

(Dear Universal: Moar flying/Quidditch plz, that was so cool. I'd totally go on a ride composed entirely of that for four minutes.)

What it says on the tin, in no particular order. Featuring the Snape buttons I gave out and a transcript of some of the amusing cards pinned up in the common room. Obviously image-heavy! ExpandRead more... )

And now one I find important enough to put outside the cut because I hope to all that is holy that it is fake:

(that's also shrunk the rude way; right-click and view image to see it full size)

If this is for real, then ALAN RICKMAN is going to be Severus Snape in what I can only suppose is the hilltop scene "Don't kill me! I come with a warning - no - a request - I have asked him" "You disgust me", when Severus is supposed to be about twenty or twenty-one years old. I knew it was inevitable they were going to use him in some scenes I'd personally consider even more implausible than his age already makes him for a 37/38-year-old, but I was holding out hope they were going to either bring back Alec Hopkins (whose name, sadly, I haven't heard rumours of having any connection with DH) or cast someone else somewhat younger for that scene. So I am praying heartily that this is a fake, because if they somehow manage to stage it so we don't see Severus's face or body I will be sad, and if they stage it so we can it will be worse. (Also it makes me very curious if they've cast a child Severus to go along with child Sirius they've apparently cast for what I guess is the train scene, and what parts, if any, of the teenage Lily/Sev scenes are going to make it in even as brief glimpses.)

Me at the Snarry meetup with [livejournal.com profile] severus555 (photo by [livejournal.com profile] foxestacado):

ugh. I do not photograph well. Not that I'm a looker to begin with, but, well, this is a good photo of me, as they go, and it's still rather depressing. (Person behind and to the right of me is my husband [personal profile] enotsola, with a weird and unflattering expression on his face.)

This is possibly the silliest piece of fanart I have ever seen.

Not so much the image - although that is silly in itself - but the fact that it's painted on an actual shower curtain.

Which I won in the Snapecast meetup raffle, when they started giving out bits of the "Sitting Room at Spinner's End" decor (which also included grey underpants neither I nor [personal profile] enotsola, thankfully, won any of) as prizes.

It's sitting folded on my bed right now and I really have no idea what I'm going to do with it, yet I am strangely reluctant to give it up. It might be possible it bribe it from me somehow.

A few more pictures and con report at some future point, but I had to upload that particular one.

Some much better pictures than I took of Wizarding World of Harry Potter (since I was only there at night) can be seen in SystemRose's gallery on DeviantArt.

I made all the Snape buttons for Infinitus on Sunday (still need to label them with their artist attribs and links). Surprisingly, my right hand and wrist didn't hurt that much afterwards, although I managed to bruise my left palm internally somehow, and more annoyingly, I noticed that one of the assembly rings of the button maker has developed some cracks. A replacement is on its way, but it probably explains why I was getting so many squibs (so to speak) - something like 20% of the presses went bad and though I could often tell before I actually pressed the pin-back in and wasted the whole button set, it resulted in me wasting a lot of the protective mylar circles (not to mention printing ink).

But wet blanketry aside, this means there are plenty of free buttons for me to give away. I wound up making more than I had originally planned to because I got so many yes's from artists! Very surprised there; I had sent out a lot of permission requests (something like a hundred? not sure, I'd have to look at home) because I was expecting to get about 35-40% back. Instead I have 55 buttons and that was with painfully whittling all my art choices down to one per artist (I had begun the project with as many as seven from some of my favourites, although I had planned to narrow those to no more than three from any one person). So every button is unique.

I am planning to design a sign or button that points out I have these available - "Free Snape badge? Ask me!" kind of thing - although I will probably also be noticeably jingling and chinking and rattling with a sackful of these, so just find me and ask and you'll have your very own to take home. :) (PROTIP: It happened to work out that there are proportionally few with a younger Severus saying "I ♥ Sev" - if you want one of those I suggest pawing through them sooner rather than later.)

If there are any left over when I come home I will be happy to mail them out to people who couldn't go.

Programming timetables for Infinitus are up. Sad: looks like "Lord Byron's New BFFs: The Ultra-Cool Anti-Hero: Hey, How'd Snape Get Invited?" has been cancelled.

Ugh, it appears there's two panels I'm interested in ("Of Serpents, Stepmothers and Scapegoats" and "Are You Smarter than a Fifth-Grade Alchemist?") on Friday morning at 9 AM and two ("The Theory of Diminishing Snape" and "Living the Magical Life") on Saturday morning at 10 AM. Yuck. It's really hard to get me to arrive somewhere before 11 AM (especially if any alcohol was involved the previous night), and Saturday worse because "Night of a Thousand Wizards" will have been the night before (I guess maybe that's why they started at 10 instead of 9?).

Friday afternoon is pretty full of stuff I probably want to go to, and then there's the Snapecast meet that evening, so it looks like we won't be using our NoTW tickets for their after-2 p.m. park entrance feature. (Ah well; the park didn't look that terribly interesting to us anyway.)

Thursday, on the other hand, looks pretty vacant (dunno how much I care about Wizard Chess or Quidditch - we'll have to see) and [personal profile] enotsola and I won't be leaving until Monday, so we have all of Sunday after the Leaving Feast which ends at noon. Is anyone else out there going to be there on Thursday or still hanging around Sunday afternoon/evening? (Or Wednesday evening for that matter; our plane is supposed to get in at about 5 PM, although we'll probably be pretty beat, having arisen at the screaming crack of a lark's fart to catch the 6:15 AM local time plane out of California.)

I'm currently going through my personal collection of Severus Snape art to pick out the first pool of candidates I may use for buttons. I would like to put some text on the buttons, like I wrote Severus/Lily @ Azkatraz 2009 on those ones. But somehow just writing Severus Snape @ Infinitus 2010 or something like that seems boring, and also possibly confusing with the Snapecast shindig (although I think they're usually careful to use that specific name on things). I do want to have @ Infinitus 2010, but the first part could use some jazzing up. Even tiny text of, like, (Snape. Snape.) arced across the top and then the Severus Snape @... part on the bottom would help (because no one, including myself, is tired of "The Mysterious Ticking Noise" references, I'm sure).

So yeah. Any ideas, anyone?

I'm rather envious of all the finery [personal profile] logospilgrim will be bringing with her to Infinitus. I would kind of like to have a special outfit for the ball (besides Hogwarts uniform; note to self, still need grey SS/CoS-style skirt, if possible), not that I'm likely to hang around more than half an hour or so, but--why? Besides practical considerations like cost and luggage space, I can tell that it would just be another attempt to patch the Empty Place with stuff, which never works. There is nothing I can buy or wear that would ever make me pretty. I've learnt the lesson many times over that it's never anything more than a waste of money.

edit: The point is not to solicit suggestions for how to reduce the cost or for costume ideas that would take up less space in my luggage. The point is that anything at all could only be a waste of time and money because there is no piece of clothing that can fix what's wrong with me, and I can tell that the desire to buy something fancy is just an attempt to do so.

I've added links to the presentation summaries to my earlier post of stuff that looked interesting to me at Infinitus. It seems that a couple of new Snape-related things have been added to the list since then (I suppose it's possible I overlooked them the first time, but these are pretty memorable titles, so I doubt it):

Lord Byron's New BFFs: The Ultra-Cool Anti-Hero : Hey, How'd Snape Get Invited?

Severus Snape is a Fiery Snake: How a Slytherin Became the Bravest Hero
arcanetrivia: a light purple swirl on a darker purple background (ravenclaw (house shield))
At Azkatraz I made buttons for part of the Severus/Lily meetup swag bags, but since it looks like that's not happening, I'm planning to just bring a bunch of buttons of various Severus 'ships and Severus general stuff and whatever (for the last ones I mined my dA favourites and LJ memories for Creative-Commons licensed stuff and asked permission for everything else), and give them out for no reason to anyone who wants them. Raise your hand if you'll be there and would like to find me and get one, so I'm sure to bring enough. (I'll bring at least twenty in any case.)
arcanetrivia: a light purple swirl on a darker purple background (general (hogwarts))
They posted a list of presentation titles today and my, it looks like there's going to be quite a lot of Snapely material on the docket. The man just won't stay dead, will he?

Sacrificing to Save: Love, Loss, and Redemption for Severus Snape and Albus Dumbledore

Shining Light Into the Shadows: Canon Clues to Seeing Snape

Severus Snape, Jedi Master
lol. Pretty sure I recognize this title. This is one of you out there on my flist, isn't it? [livejournal.com profile] drinkingcocoa maybe? no wait, it's [personal profile] logospilgrim, isn't it?

Snape, Dumbledore, and the Power of Love and Choice edit: Apparently this is being presented by a fifteen-year-old. O.o They sure are making them different these days, aren't they? I would never have been able to write such a thing.

Snapecast Presents The Theory of Diminishing Snape: A Snarky Fan's Predictions for Snape's Role in the Deathly Hallows Film

We, the Jury, find the following characters... redeemed?
I can only assume one Severus Snape will be included. edit: Of course; he doesn't appear to be intended as the main focus (also up: Draco, Lucius, Narcissa, Peter Pettigrew, giants, centaurs (???), Grindelwald, Dumbledore, Ron (???), and Slughorn), but I'll be surprised if he doesn't steal the show as he usually does.

Snape is the Story, Hermione the Reader: SS/HG in Canon Not a place I'm likely to be, of course, but it's there.

From Greasy Dungeon Bat to Magical Fabio: The Fanon Transformation of Severus Snape *suspicious glance* I hope this is a self-mocking title and not an outsider's perspective. edit: The terse description is not filling me with confidence: "This lecture will discuss how fan fiction, specifically through the internet, changed the mythology of Severus Snape."

Other stuff that sounds interesting to me:

Speaking ill of the dead: A moral exploration of Sirius Black

Improviso! –Spontaneous Playing in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
edit: Ah, I dunno. Exercises and improv-theater games doesn't sound like it'd be quite up my Theatrick Alley.

Voldemort is in the Details: Fan Costuming in the the Harry Potter Universe lol @ that title. edit: This looks like it's a little too deep in the craft for me, as I'm not the kind of costumer who designs from scratch.

Are You Smarter than a Fifth-Grade Alchemist?

Wizarding Classes
? Maybe? Need to know what kind of class they're talking about. edit: This appears to be Muggle Aspirant General Instructional Conspectus (MAGIC): An Interactive Introduction to Hogwarts Curriculum for Magically-Minded Muggles. I dunno, seems a bit silly for me. (I had originally been wondering if they meant social or economic class among wizards.) They're pretty impressive as a cosplaying troupe, though, if you like the movie costumes; some of them really do have uncanny resemblance to the film actors (I am not buying that Severus, though).

Wizarding Economics: Money in Harry Potter Heh, indeed. Canon leaves a lot of questions as to how the heck the wizarding community really supports itself and gets various goods and things. edit: This appears to be focused on money specifically and a bit about the dynamics of poverty. Ah well.

Parlez-vous Latine: The Use of Foreign Language in Harry Potter Fanfiction edit: Can't find this one or anything like it.

Living the Magical Life: Wizarding Society of Harry Potter as an Emerging Subculture

The Black Brothers: A Brothers’ Bond in a Time of War

The Difference Between Jumpers and Sweaters: Exploring the Editorial Process of the `Harry Potter’ Series
Oh, now this could be interesting. Besides minor vocabulary changes like the titular one, there's more differences than you'd think between the British and American editions, some of them mysterious -- sentences or even whole passages missing or added -- and sometimes, it seems, changes made for the American eds. were introduced into later printings of the British eds.!

Harry Potter and Gender: One Step Forward and Two Steps Back On balance, I don't think this'll be for me.

Of Serpents, Stepmothers and Scapegoats: Slytherin House, Gender Stereotypes and the Feminine Shadow Turns out from the description that this will have significant Snape material as well (naturally enough).

And this one confuses me:

Just because he died in the forest, does it have to be a Christian book? Huh? Since when did Jesus die in a forest? edit: It's been pointed out to me that the presenter is probably not focusing on the location of Harry's death as the point of comparison, as this sentence seemed to me to be saying, just the fact of it (and his resurrection). edit 2: See link to summary. It's actually not about that specifically: "is [there] room for more than a Christian viewpoint as well as [discussing] the reaction of many non-Christians to the perceived exclusivity of the current trend."

If you are attending Infinitus and wanted to go to the special after-hours event at Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I suggest you go modify your registration to add the tickets now. I think for some reason the fact of the availability didn't get broadcast on all channels, because though I follow [livejournal.com profile] infinitus2010 and their RSS feed, I don't remember getting notification of this, and wouldn't have known except that husband follows someone on Twitter who posted something a few days ago about some kind of coupon that would get you an extra discount (which doesn't seem to have materialized). There were comments about tweaking it on their Wordpress blog that I didn't see elsewhere. Anyway, tickets for the event are $100 a pop (yikes) and go up on May 1st, something else I don't recall having been spread around. See http://www.infinitus2010.org/ticketinfo.html.

I've sadly come to the conclusion that I don't have enough mental spoons to organize a Severus/Lily meetup at Infinitus, not one that would be of any interest, anyway. I feel like I have too many things hanging over my head as it is. If anyone would like to take over doing so, and wants to use [livejournal.com profile] azkatraz_ssle, say so; I can make you the maintainer and send you the last info I got from con scheduling. Otherwise, in a few weeks I'm probably going to delete the community, apparently connected to Azkatraz as it is (and I used that rename token I was mumbling about on my other personal account).

While on this kind of topic, I know I've asked about this before, but does anyone know of any other communities devoted to planning/info for other topical meetups, like there were [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] name="azkatraz_snape"> and [livejournal.com profile] azkatraz_hpss?
